Don’t Give Up
As I observed over at suite101, I feel that I ought to dispense some sage words on writing, but then I take a good, long look in the mirror and think, “who are you kidding?” But I’ve posted my three words of advice over at the blog.

That tidbit about Bradbury gives me courage, but I suspect that getting published is mostly up to luck. Sure, some skill is necessary, but the rest seems to be about being at the right place at the right time. There are too many published authors whose works are horrid, and too many talented writers that almost weren’t discovered, for this not to be true. I often feel like I’m sitting at a slot machine, continuously pulling that lever with each submission while draining quarters from my emotional bucket. It’s a taxing process, but so far the little payouts keep me going until the day I hit those triple cherries.
Jay,
Yes luck plays a part — it would be hypocritical of me to pretend otherwise, given my Angry Robot experience.
But — I’ll reply in more detail tomorrow or Friday.
Thanks for the comment.
