		<description>I try quite hard not to buy a book by its cover. I use two techniques. First, if it has a subtly lurid cover of the kind you describe, I&#039;ll neither open it nor buy it. Second, If it has an artistically beautiful and SF-nally impressive cover, I&#039;ll look at it and read the printed description. If that seems interesting and for real, then I&#039;ll in most cases buy it. Technique two compelled me to buy Alastair Reynolds&#039; &#039;Revelation Space&#039; in 2002. I have not looked back since then.</description>
